What is a Physiatrist?
A physiatrist (fizz eye' uh trists) is a physician
specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. These specialists
are experts in occupational medicine, spine medicine, sports
medicine and pain management.
The physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists
focuses on restoring a patient to his/her maximum function. Physiatrists
are specialists in diagnosing problems in the musculoskeletal system and
may treat patients with a variety of injuries. Patients may range from
someone with a simple sprain to someone with a spinal cord injury.
